Electives Programme
Co-op Academy Florence MacWilliams' Electives Programme is an exciting opportunity for our students to engage in a diverse range of activities beyond the curriculum.
The Florence Electives Programme is built on our values of pride, ambition care and excellence for self, school and city. We believe that you should have the opportunity to take part in enrichment beyond our curriculum in order to explore your talents and interests and reach your full potential. Through our electives programme you will take part in three elective
opportunities per academic year. We would like you to pick one from each strand: Classics, Creative and STEM. This will support developing your whole character.
Classics Electives
These electives will deepen your understanding of knowledge, language, and ideas that have shaped the world. You will stretch your thinking through enquiry, discussion, debate, and problem-solving. You’ll explore timeless concepts around philosophy, history, literature, and ethics and become highly confident in expressing your views, asking questions, and making sense of complex ideas. Creative Electives Creativity is a powerful tool for expression, innovation, and identity. In our Creative electives, you will develop skills across the visual and performing arts, music, media, and design. These
electives will encourage you to think imaginatively, collaborate with others, and produce original work that reflects your ideas, culture, and interests. Whether you’re performing on stage, editing film, or crafting art, you will grow in confidence and creative ambition.
STEM Electives
Our STEM electives honour the pioneering legacy of Florence MacWilliams by nurturing the scientists, engineers, coders, and problem-solvers of the future. In these sessions, you will use your curiosity and critical thinking to explore exciting challenges in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. From building models and designing experiments to coding and robotics, these electives will inspire you to think like an innovator and tackle real-world problems with creativity and resilience.
You are invited to order the three options from any strand that you haven’t yet engaged with, based on your personal interests and ambitions. Your final elective will then be assigned to you from these choices. From Year 7 to Year 10 you will have the opportunity to take part in 12 electives which will strengthen your personal development and cultural capital.
Please download our Electives Handbook below which includes all relevant information for each opportunity.
