Milestone moment reached in the build of our new academy
Construction of our brand new academy is progressing rapidly and this week we reached a major milestone as the steel frame was installed.
Forming the backbone of our academy, the steel frame has changed the site landscape as our new building starts to become a reality!
To mark the occasion, we held a site signing ceremony attended by Dr. Chris Tomlinson, CEO of Co-op Academies Trust, Headteacher Elizabeth Clewlow, Chair of Governors Pauline Smith and main contractors Bowmer + Kirkland.
Pupils Bailey, Daisy, Aahil and Florence were also invited and even got to sign their names on the lift shaft.
Our incredible three-storey academy will soon feature modern teaching spaces, specialist science labs, a dining hall, theatre and offices, all designed to meet our net zero sustainability targets.
Headteacher, Elizabeth Clewlow, said: “Reaching this milestone moment and celebrating it with key staff and students from our founding cohort was really special.
"The building, which will be set to open and welcome new starters in September 2025, is progressing at pace and we’re looking forward to watching it come together.”
Dr. Chris Tomlinson, CEO of Co-op Academies Trust, praised the rapid progress, saying:
"Co-op Academy Florence MacWilliams has made a very positive impact in its first few weeks, and this milestone reflects the dedication and vision of everyone behind the project.
"Our new academy building not only supports our sustainability goals but also ensures that we continue to provide exceptional learning environments for our students, along with vital community facilities that will benefit future generations."
